The Wye Adventure

Going beyond our ordinary

Some things seem too big.

Like running 219km. And rescuing a dying river.

And yet some people take on these challenges anyway.

Mark from Big Adventures on Average Talent is preparing for his attempt to beat the Fastest Known Time for running the 219 km Wye Valley Walk on 12th – 13th October.

Whatever happens on the trail, he’ll be promoting and fundraising for the campaign to save the River Wye, a river on the border of England and Wales which is facing ‘environmental collapse’ despite its designation as a Special Area of Conservation. A whole range of people and organisations with different skills and experiences are working together for the River Wye and you can join them by donating to the cause, becoming a citizen scientist, thinking of the river when you make food choices, or taking action for the River Wye based on your own strengths and passions (make a pledge here). You can find out more by attending the community event in Chepstow, where Mark will be finishing his FKT attempt.

Along the way I’ll be working with Mark, talking to other changemakers and adventurers and drawing on psychology and physiology research, asking what we can learn from the mindsets of adventurers and changemakers about taking on big challenges, and riding the inevitable ups and downs in adventuring, changemaking, and everyday life.

Get involved.
